The Signature Collection features jewellery made with lampwork beads designed and handmade by Kate Francis. These totally unique pieces of jewellery are made up using the finest sterling silver fittings and clasps unless otherwise stated. All these pieces can also be made using 9ct gold, please contact us for a quote.
Lampwork beads are handmade using rods of glass which are heated to a red hot molten state on a gas fuelled torch. The molten glass is wrapped around stainless steel rods and turned in the flame until smooth and can then be manipulated with the use of handheld tools to obain the desired shape. The more glass added the bigger the bead will be. Colours are added and the whole bead can be wrapped in a layer of crystal clear glass or left as it is. A large bead can take around an hour to make.
Once the bead is taken out of the flame it is placed into a special kiln which holds the bead at a temperature of around 950 degrees F for about 5-6 hours then cools the bead very slowly until it reaches room temperature. This process tempers the glass bead making it stronger and longer lasting, The process is called annealing.
After Annealing, the bead is taken off the steel rod and the hole is cleaned using a diamond bead reamer, the beads are then ready to be made into gorgeous jewellery for you.
All the pieces in our signiture collection are finished with one of our beautiful sterling silver signature tags making it truely special and totally unique.
